Frommer's Oregon Review
When it comes to the best Bed-and-Breakfast Inns in Oregon, Frommer's Oregon, 1st Edition, picked one only in Eugene: The Secret Garden. Here's what their book has to say about us:
This newly opened B&B is house in what was once a sorority house, though before that it was the home of Eugene pioneer Alton Baker, for whom the city's waterfront park is named. Today, the large inn is run by the granddaughter of Portland shipping and steel magnate Henry Kaiser and is filled with family heirlooms and other European and Asian art and antiques. Guest rooms are beautifully and very tastefully decorated with interesting touches here and there to add visual interest.
One of our favorite rooms is the Scented Garden, which has floor lamps made from Tibetan horns and a gorgeous sitar on display. On every guest room door, you'll find painted some memorable quotation, and in the upstairs sitting room, there is a fascinating mural of Daphne turned into a tree. Yes, there is a secret garden as well as a not so secret one. The former is a unique outdoor room with living walls that hide a whirlpool tub.
